Birkenhead Green Week is a celebration of community action, nature, and climate solutions. It brings people together through events, activities, and projects aimed at making Birkenhead greener and fairer for everyone.
Birkenhead Green Week is part of the national Great Big Green Week, a UK-wide celebration of community-led action to tackle climate change and protect nature. You can find out more about the national campaign on their website.
Events will be taking place across Birkenhead between 7th and 15th June 2025. Some activities will be in parks, gardens, streets, and community centres.
The timetable will be published one month before the week begins, on 7 May. If you join our mailing list, we’ll send it straight to your inbox as soon as it’s ready.
Everyone is welcome! Whether you're a resident, business, school, or community group, there’s something for you to join in with.
Most events are drop-in, but some may need booking to help organisers manage numbers — for example, our organised cycle rides if you need to borrow a bike. Please check the [Event Listings Page] for details.
It’s important to us that all Birkenhead Green Week events are free and accessible to everyone. We don’t have any sponsors or formal funding — everything is made possible through donations of time, money, and resources from local people. If you’d like to support the week and help it grow, you can make a PayPaL donation here.
Every contribution, big or small, helps keep Birkenhead Green Week going strong. Thank you for being part of it!
Yes please! We welcome volunteers to help at events, with planting days, outreach, and more. Visit our Volunteering Page to find out how to get involved.
Absolutely. We’d love you to! Whether it’s a litter pick, a talk, a film screening, or something completely new, get in touch to tell us about your idea!
Yes — many events are designed with families and children in mind. Activities like planting, nature walks, and community fun days will be listed as family-friendly.
The Great Big Green Week came to Wirral two years ago with a small group of volunteers in Tranmere. Since then, it’s grown year by year, with most events still centred around Birkenhead for now. But our vision is much bigger — we’re aiming to expand across Wirral in the coming years. If you’d like to help bring Wirral Green Week events to your neighbourhood beyond Birkenhead, we’d love to hear from you!
Most outdoor events will go ahead with a little rain (bring a coat!), but if the weather is very bad, organisers will update event pages or contact people who booked.

Birkenhead Green Week currently runs without formal funding or sponsorship. Everything we do is made possible through donations of time, money, and resources from local people, businesses and community groups.
If you’d like to support the week and help it grow, you can make a donation via PayPal here: . Every contribution — big or small — helps us build something positive for our community. Thank you for being part of it!
We’re also starting to look for sponsors and funding opportunities for next year. If you know of any opportunities, or would like to get involved in supporting Birkenhead Green Week 2025, please email us at hello@wirralgreenweek.org — we’d love to hear from you!
